Alright, this post is mainly for me to mention that one of the topics I’ll cover in this blog is the Sonic the Hedgehog video game series. Thought I’d briefly give some info about it and how it relates to myself. For an overview check out its Wikipedia and TVTropes pages.
It’s actually quite funny, though, since I myself have really only played two games in the series, out of the list of over 20 or so since the first game in 1991: Sonic Adventure (1998) and Sonic Generations (2011). And, I’ll be up front here, I’ve not really been happy with the way the series is being handled these days, right up to the newest game, Sonic Lost World (2013). The franchise’s quality has fluctuated badly since either Sonic Adventure 2 (2001) or Sonic Heroes (2004), and the fanbase is one of the most infamously split and controversial among all video game communities – read this post to learn more about that. And perspectives on the series from the outside also varies considerably. I guess one of the things I want to write about is exactly these widely different viewpoints towards Sonic.
Despite the problems the series is facing, I cannot help but think about it heavily, mainly due the Sonic fanfiction I’m writing and reading, and perhaps for some other more specific reasons that will be elaborated on in future posts. No real schedule here, but they’re definitely coming.
